NERAM – It’s Good Time To Watch Cinema !!
Neram ( Tamil / Malayalam ) by Alphonse Putharen , yet another short filmmaker turned director is a film you must not miss. The film proclaims itself as the first ever movie in Tamil Cinema History that doesn’t try anything different ! Right from the opening credits the director has given a different treatment to the common scenes of the 75 year Tamil cinema .
Some lines from the opening credits – Thanks to “GOD” ,Sincere thanks to my Ex-Girl friends (especially the last one)
The story of the film is quite simple the protagonist of the film Vetri has borrowed 50,000 INR from Vatti Raja a dreaded goon , and his lover Veni has eloped from her house , the police are behind them and to add to Vetri’s woes he has to pay his sister’s remaining dowry money , he loses his money to local pickpockets and thus he is in a cobweb of problems !
The film is thus about time as the title suggests , good time and bad time in a person’s life . If you are disbeliever of this concept like me , you may still enjoy this film . The making of the film – screenplay , editing , cinematography and background score all blend perfectly that we get a visual treat. The artist selection is perfect and we don;t get that bilingual feel , for which Alphonse Putharen must be appreciated as many experienced directors have failed in at least one language while making a multi-lingual film , and in his first attempt he has done it quite successfully , though we get a mallu feel at places.
The film’s screenplay is on the lines of Guy Ritchie films but , the genre is so , we cannot blame comparisons . This film is definitely worth you time and money at the theatres.
The film has the feel of short film at instances , but we can get over it , the run time of the film is short that’s a great thing its around 105 minutes , the film could have been done away with the interval concept, as it could have resulted in a better watching experience . The film picks up its pace only towards the interval , so its time that we do away with the concept of intervals.
VERDICT – NERAM WORTH YOUR TIME ! DON”T MISS IT !
